Apropos to the news highlighting the crunch faced by Indian Armed forces in recruiting officers/personnel, I would like to propose a model that can be followed for employment. There is no denying a fact that Indian army is 2nd largest force in world after China, & the number of soldiers required would go on increasing in tomorrow’s times. In spite of its Herculean existence, it faces an acute shortage of 11,000 officers at hand. What the need of the hour is to have more tangential ways of recruiting other than the existing conventional ones used by National Defence Academy, Indian Military Academy and Officers Training Academy. An officer in armed forces is considered for service owing to main areas which include education, aptitude, physical condition and moral character with no criminal records. A model of PPPP (President Public Private Partnership) can be introduced. This would help Indian Army to recruit young people from private & public Colleges ranging from Law, Arts, and Science to Commerce etc. Not only would it help in getting personnel with varied background, it would help in building a strong base for army contingent. This would help in taping the potential of students who never considered army as a viable option!!! The recruitment would follow all the guidelines prescribed by Academies other than existing entrance exams. This move would also help in increasing the number of seats for armed services. Reciprocating the initiative would also help in absorbing the students across colleges in India which shows a very dismal figure of only 25% being employable. This initiative would go a long way in drifting from ‘Conscription’ in India, which it has never followed. Moreover, a course curriculum emphasizing on emotional quotient development would help in eradicating stress and build upon moral character.
