This letter is in context to Shiela Dikshit’s recent comments about the migrants from other states invading her very own pre-occupied, possessed “Delhi”. I wanted to share my opinion with you regarding the same. It is something that should not have left any of us appalled, as this isn’t an outcome of pre-conceived conscientiousness. Delhities’ have always considered others as aliens and that can be very easily observed at various verticals, at different ages and in varied walks of life. Racism isn’t what the Indian culture is, but Delhi shouldn’t forget that neither is “Elitism”!!! In the past, Edwin Lutyens tried not to design Delhi, the Indian way but it was Lord Hardinge, the then viceroy of India who had insisted and executed. And in the present, it is none other than Shiela Dixit who wants Delhi to remain a privileged state belonging to its people, the one with invisible but ever burgeoning stamp of being a ‘DELHITE’. She should realize the deeper concerns for growth and prosperity by drawing a parallelism between government and a private organization. Both grow on the basis of its employees (people). Employees are the one who generate revenue and income for the company and so are the denizens who work for the betterment of the state. Delhi may feel proud of its success in future Common Wealth Games constitution, but it shouldn’t forget the fact, that every tangent of smile on its face will be the result of a zillion drops of sweat cast away by those unsung, un-called, and un-wanted invading migrants. Delhi should realize that a nation grows with an efficient and productive government, which in turn should work for the welfare of its people, no matter who they are or where they come from!!! Once all Indian states start thinking of growing India, such petty thoughts would recede to background.
