Through this email, I wanted to express my concerns towards the Presidential elections taking its aberrant toll in today’s time. It is deplorable to see the way things turned up. Democracy, in India, has now become so superficial that trying to get beneath the celluloid makes one feel like falling into an un-ending crevasse. Adding to it, the other side crevasse shows the black politics burgeoning in its impetus. One feel sorry for the state of Presidential Seat which from being such a covet throne has become a mere object of mockery around. Everybody wants to sit; nobody wants to understand its responsibility. It is an accepted fact that President has ceremonial powers but please do not make His selection a complete ceremonial affair. Congress wants it’s representative at the center to bring her strong foot forward for the next elections without realizing the fact, that it’s not president who would help them to rule but the democracy, the people of India and if they are not happy, no President for namesake in this world can make Congress happy. Even if one alienates himself from the game of black politics, one just cannot siphon off the candidates for the same. At least the pegs should match the game being played which is not the case in here. Look at Pratibha Patil. Since the time she’s been around, her ideology and persona seems to be working against her. On one hand where we’ve had a noble scientist occupying this seat with pragmatic approach and a concern, here is a lady who believes in superstitions and is connected with a number of cases even before her phase of nascence finishes in politics. I must say that we are a democracy, and chipping in politicians from different ‘diverse’ political parties and asking them to play tug-of-war for ‘The’ seat is no way acceptable. Let the diversity be kept in hands of the mass, and fairness and honesty be kept in the hands of politicians.
